I'm pleased that your perseverance has eventually paid off. Incidentally the area east of Kirklees Hall (viewed by walking along the Kirklees way footpath, park in the Three Nuns Car Park) is a stronghold for Yellowhammer and also excellent for Green Woodpecker.

have you ever had lesser spotted woodpecker in and around the Kirklees hall area.?

Not yet! Unfortunately Kirklees Hall and the surrounding woodland is out of bounds as far as Joe Public is concerned. Do any Halifax birders know of anyone that lives in one of the pads as an invitation to the site would be handy?

On a related note I had a Lesser Peck last week near the Jay House Lane area. As you are going uphill from Brighouse, before the lane becomes Jay House you turn right and go past a few houses to the left. On your right further along there is a large detatched house with it's own wooded grounds to the rear.
Saw it in flight initially then in the grounds of the house.
Andy C, is this a known area/is it close to other sites?
I'm chuffed 'cos it's a lifer.
Iain.
