calderdale

visited blake dean this morning and walked to gibson mill and back(a long walk but save's money!)

great spotted woodpecker 1
cuckoo 1
gey wagtail 2
dipper 1
blackcap 1 male

also went to elland gp at midday,still 2 reed warblers in the 1st pool reedbed,and a mute swan on the river by the wier,that was it really just the usual stuff.
late afternoon went to luddendean,

also some pics of the 'saker' from green withens yesterday, nick d and harry (from ireland) are thinking it may be a lanner or hybrid,(pics are heavily photoshopped)

what saker or lanner ?? escaped bird? didnt hear anything

did not think escapes were worth putting out sorry,it was only present for about 10mins then headed off north west.

Darrell, I would say from the structure of this bird it is either a Lanner or Laggar or a more probably for an escape a hybrid of both (this is a common falconers hybrid). I have seen a few of each on my travels and though quite large the structure is very like a slimmed down Peregrine. A Saker is a much more powerful, bigger bird. Judging by the speed they fly at you did well to get any kind of photo, well done
