Avocet

An avocet was found today at Whiteholme Reservoir. This is only the second record for Calderdale, the first being two birds at Redmires Dam in September 1950!
More details will no doubt follow.

The bird was on the peat island in the middle. It was found by Alan Nuttall (Rochdale birder) at approx. 14:00 hrs and was still present at 19:00 hrs

Have just returned from there, bird still on island, looked settled, spent most of its time asleep! One Oystercatcher also on the island.
