Hen Harrier book raffle
The raffle for the books donated by Paul Talbot was drawn at the CBCG meeting this evening, the lucky winner was Andy Cockroft who after taking the main prize generously resubmitted the remainder of the books for a redraw, these were won by Alf King. Many thanks both to Paul for his generous donation and to everyone who bought tickets, the raffle has raised £212 for optics for the ALE (Administrative Law Enforcement) on Malta

Makes you think though don't it. This site is ranked at 72 in the birding top 500 at the moment. If each of the 72 groups raised as much as Halifax it would total over 15 grand for ALE. I wonder what the running total is so far, does anyone know ? Well done chaps for raising such a tidy amount, who says Yorkies are tight.
Running total for what? The raffle has raised £215 which I am currently making arrangements to send to Malta, I'm not sure that anyone else is raising any money.

I mean the running total for ALE, I assume Halifax is not the only group raising funding for such a worthy cause ?
There may be others around the country but this initiative was purely a local one as a result of several of us spending a week out on Malta at their Raptor Camp and seeing the problems they faced at first hand. Andre Raine has been in touch to thank everyone for their efforts and to pass on his regards to everyone who knows him from his time here. The next job is to decide whether to buy some optics here and send them out or to send the money, I am waiting to here from Birdlife Malta for their preferred option
Thanks for that Nick. I had assumed that it was national thing here in the UK with most bird watching groups taking part.
Have the RSPB or any of the Optics companies donated any cash/good to the cause ? I suppose the people in Malta have approached some of the travel agencies, who make money from wildlife tourism, for a donation ?
Steve Downing contacted Nikon to ask for support but they declined.
There's virtually no wildlife tourism on Malta due to the hunting issue.
