Chairman's address

No not quite! Just wanted to thank everyone who has been involved in the work of the Conservation Group for their support and efforts during 2007 and to wish all Calderdale birders a happy and bird filled 2008. Anyone want to guess at the first new bird for Calderdale (hopefully we'll get one next year!).

Hi Nick
Not a guess on new species for Calderdale in 2008 I'm afraid.

I would just like to second your thoughts on what a bloody marvellous job the conservation committee does. I am so impressed that I am prepared to put my money where my mouth is and give another donation to your work. With sales of Andy's book of £16 and a few quid from the 5% commission I offer on all sales to local birders I reckon you have some £27 to come and I will round this up to £100 as a donation from Pennine Books to help in your work. Who gets the cheque, Andy C ?

The praise has to be returned in full to your good self. You do a great job (and I'm sure long suffering job on the quiet!) holding the bunch of us - with our many and varied 'peculiarities' - together. Thanks from one and all and Happy New Year of course.

I reckon the next new bird for Calderdale will be a complete one off random, such as a fly through cattle egret, or a richards pipit - something completely unpredictable.

Yet another brilliant gesture from Paul, very many thanks indeed mate, local birders and the Group in general owe you a big thank you. Andy C is our treasurer so a cheque to him is fine. In return can I once again appeal to local naturalists to go to Paul's website when buying books (www.penninebooks.co.uk)
