Yellowhammers

A local guy who walks down the canal towards Cooper Bridge tells me that he sees and hears Yellowhammers most of the year round at "Bradley Hall Farm" (I think this is what the area is called near the Old Cornmill ?) and lower down on the Canal and river around Cooper Bridge. I know there is a feeding station for Yellowhammers at Bradley Hall Farm but is anyone aware of the Yellowhammers further down towards Cooper Bridge and below ?

Not to my knowledge but others may know better, certainly worth checking out though.

Yellowhammers have bred in the past around Colnebridge Sludge Plant and are not uncommon along the Calder Valley further east but that is out of the Halifax Birding Area in any case.

Incidentally 2 Woodcock, 3 Siskin and 15 Lesser Redpoll were in the vicinity of the sludge plant on 04/01/08

Sean Johnston spreads seed there provided by the Conservation Group, although I don't think he's recorded any Yellowhammers on the seed they are still in the area.

Where exactly is Sean putting the seed down?
I only ask the question as I have not seen any evidence of it during my visits to the area.

I don't think Sean posts on here but as far as I know its on the right just as you get under the railway arch, I'll check with him and get back.

Dave
Sean has seen your post on here and contacted me saying I can pass his phone number onto you, if you then make contact he will meet you and show you where the seed is. If you e mail me privately I will do this.

Spoke with Sean last night and for everyone else's benefit he scatters the seed on the right under the bridge and also along the hedgerow. The main point being that he scatters the seed so it's not put down in one big pile anywhere. He also changes the area he scatters it although it is always around this area under the bridge. I too am yet to see Yellowhammer on the ground, they have always been in the hedgerow.

I'm sure they will feed from the ground but just out of interest has anyone ever seen them on a feeder? I have a vague recollection of seeing them on feeders at Caerlaverock many moons ago but the old memory's not what it used to be!
