Blake Dean/Lower Gorple/Widdop

Great morning for birding - very cold up there - better than working!

Blake Dean
We saw an Osprey through going west at. Seen from Widdop Rd the bird was heading >W at 12.55 coming along the ridge to the south into the wind and seen over the small plantation where the track heads up to Lower Gorple. Just as the hail storm headed in from the west it came in lower over the valley that heads up to Clough Foot and Widdop. It was lost from view in the valley but may have rested up at Widdop plantation (or Gorple) with the weather coming in so bad for the next hour or two. Probably over into Lancashire this afternoon? What superb birds they are!

Also seen
2 Tufted Duck (lower Gorple)
2 Oystercatchers
1 very hardy Swallow around Clough Foot car park
1 Golden Plover
Several Curlew and Lapwing
Canadas everywhere on the moor
