Longfield Dam

8 tufted duck still there
8 mallard
17 pied wagtails, 15 meadow pipits and c. 55 canada geese in the field next to the dam.

Always a good place to stop if you're passing - and you can bird from the car!

About 150 yrds from the Shepherds Rest Pub, between Lumbutts and Todmorden. Just past the turn to Longfield Equestrian Centre. It's comparatively tiny, but seems to punch well above its weight in terms of birds - particularly ducks.

Agree with you Matt - excellent place - I often stop on the way home from Halifax to check it out -last week the mippits were almost flying in the window!! Golden eye are very regular.

Oh for the good old days. Walking to work in the dark one morning some years ago, I was aware of some large shapes on that water. My husband collected me from work later and there were 7 whooper swans on that 'pond'. Quite a sight. As we watched from the car they took off and flew down the Burnley valley.

(Please excuse the reminiscences of an old lady! .........)
