Sunday bl~~~y Sunday

Ive been watching a pair of Sparrowhawks displaying over a local wood since the beginning of the year, this morning the very large female was in full swing it was absolutely fantastic , wing flapping and stooping again and again, the much smaller male was continually circling above with occasional swoops. As it was the big garden birdwatch the kids were ticking off ,Rooks,Collared Dove and Blackbirds, and then noticed that the local pair of Magpies had started nest building.Seems the birds have started spring allready.
A common Buzzard flew low over Barkisland towards Branch Road, its allways nice to see large raptors in the void of Calderdale.

Had an e mail from Colin Shields at the weekend saying he had seen a Grey heron apparently incubating at a local heronry.

I saw two herons perched at a local heronry on Saturday. They weren't on nests though.
