Influx of Nuthatches ?

Another at Skircoat today, after one on 14th, plus those that Andy and Ian reported from Hardcastle Crags. I work outside a lot and would hear nuthatches loud calls if they were about. They seem to have come in recently, either that or they are silent through the summer. (Robins and mistle thrushes have just started their territorial winter songs.)

Perhaps the garden feeding station operators can shed some light on the question.

Yesterday at 18.45 Pied Wagtails were gathering to roost somewhere near Bull Green in Halifax. They were on the roofs of the old buildings opposite Wetherspoons.

It looks like the Nuthatches are dispersing. They seem to have done very well this year.

In recent years the Pied Wags have had winter roosts at Bull Green in the shrubbery around the small car park there. Another larger roost has been in the small trees at the top of Woolshops - must take a look in the evening sometime!

We are in between Copley and Skircoat and have now started seeing nuthatches daily in the garden as opposed to 2 or 3 sightings in the last 2 years previously. :-)

I've just started hearing Nuthatches at Coach Road again, after very few sightings in the summer months. In autumn, winter and spring there have been two or three together regularly.
A very frustrating bird to see in summer !
