Very little open water on the Ski Lake. This morning c250 B/H and Common gulls, 28 Tufted, 26 Coot, 38 Canadas, 3 Pochard and 1 Scaup. The Mute Swans departed towards Brighouse at 11 am. River produced 6 Teal, 4 Little Grebe and 16 Mallard.The pair of Nuthatches were inspecting last years nest site so it looks good.

Visited this afternoon and I reckon 99% of the lake is now frozen so it is quite a sight to see the frenzied activity of all the waterbirds in such a confined area.
I couldn't resist a little chuckle Mike when I looked at your posting as I recorded exactly the same number of Tufted Duck, Little Grebe and Coot as you.
I only managed 2 male Pochard as seen over the last few days, was the third one male or female?
1st winter male Scaup and 4 Great Crested Grebe were still present plus 1 Goosander, 1 Grey Heron and 1 Kestrel.
Both juvenile Great Northern Diver still present at Scammomden this afternoon and actually appeared to socialise for a change late on.
2500 gulls in the roost once more although the number of Common Gull was in the region of 500, the rest being Black-headed.
2 Lesser Black-backed Gull (1 adult & 1 juvenile) flew in at 15:30, stayed for half an hour and then departed to the west at 16:00
2 adult Herring Gull flew in from the north-west at 16:10 and carried on going south-east
1 Sparrowhawk around again disturbing the Black-headed Gulls roosting
Nice one David.The Pochard was a male but if this weather continues I think the whole lake will be frozen over,then what. Thanks for all the comments on the Fieldare shot,they are still in the garden today,and well done to Dishfish on his Shelduck,and Jeff the bacon butty van has been scrapped so no more food so walking only,no food.
