Merlin still in Clifton area

Merlin went through the field at the top of Jay House Lane this afternoon. Good numbers of birds in the field all went up at once and the merlin streaked across just inches from the ground, it went past about 10 yards from the car. In the field was about 80 Fieldfare, 150 starling, 20 Stock Dove and a good mixed selection of corvids.

Interestingly I had a similar Merlin sighting less than two weeks ago Jim, but just S of Hartshead village - less than 2 miles 'as the Crow flies'from JHL. My bird was flying very low and fast over farmland, and disappeared into woodland nearby.
The rookery at Tofts Grove at Rastrick (a right turn just past St Matthew's church) could possibly be photographed from Mayster Grove at the back of the trees, looking between the houses - if you have a long lens !

Think it's got back too early and is waiting for the larder in the hills to get stocked up?

The Rastrick one is near work so I'll check it out tomorrow, cheers.
