Any body any ideas on this bird, it looked fairly small in the field and I thought small male curlew at the time. The photos are blown up. In some it does look like Whimbrel ?.

I had a very similar bird in more or less the same setting at Deer Hill, Huddersfield, about a week ago. Bill shape was exactly like this. It also showed hint of a crown stripe. Turned out to be a Curlew in the end and I put apparent crown stripe down to head being wet. That's not to make any judgement about this bird though.

Thanks for more photos,Ive seen quite a few of these but mainly in autumn at ringstone when juv Curlews are on return passage.I reckon with the large ammount of brown on rump and no stripe between eye and bill leads me to a small curlew.the crown stripe on the origenal photo and eye stripe dont stand out in these photos.
