West Yorkshire Ecology

Just a reminder about next weeks meeting where West Yorkshire Ecology(http://www.ecology.wyjs.org.uk/wyjs-ecology.asp). will be meeting with local birders to discuss their desire to include the Club's records in their database. At the meeting they will give full details of why they would like the information, what conservation value this will have and how it will be used etc. Obviously a decision as to whether this data is passed on must be made by those that provide it so I would invite anyone with an interest to attend. The meeting is planned for Tuesday 20th July at the offices of Calderdale Countryside Services (above the Library) in Mytholmroyd with a 7-15pm start. Please note this is not a CBCG event, the records are the property of HBWC and therefore any local birder who submits their info to HBWC is encouraged to attend.

COMMERCIAL SECTOR CONSULTATION OF THE WEST YORKSHIRE ECOLOGICAL RECORD

There will be a fee of £70 (+VAT) for the first hour of officer time, increasing in multiples of £35 for each additional 30 minutes (subject to a total maximum charge of £525 per day). For complex enquiries individual quotations will be supplied at the discretion of the Principal Archaeologist, Advisory Service or the Senior Ecologist.

Very interesting reading......

Does it say if any of this is passed on to the Group/s that supply the info? A question that certainly needs asking at the meeting!

From what I understand, at least two VC bird groups do not supply data to WYE. It would be useful to know what their reasons are for opting out. It would also be useful to know where the other Vice County recording groups sit on this matter.

It might also be interesting to find out why WYE ecology have themselves opted out of the Yorkshire and Humberside gateway project targetted at the same objectives but with a much broader geographical span.

Tuesday's meeting has been cancelled at Nick D's request (illness). There are clearly many questions to be answered before anything is decided upon, thanks to all for their input.
