A female mandarin duck was with a dozen or so mallards in the Calder from the bridge on New Road 7.45am today. A bit aggresive as it warded off attention from the mallards

Sandra - there is a female wood duck who is often seen around there, which looks alot like a f. mandarin. Could it be the same bird?

Yes, it could be the same bird Matt. I posted from work and there wasn't a wood duck in my book. She had a white ring round her eye which tapered into a line. White on the bottom edges of her folded wings.

She hasn't been around this spot for ages - at least not while I've been passing. (She can probably see me coming and hide until I've gone! - like the Kit-Kat advert) I look out every morning for the dipper and also scan the ducks.
