Lee Mount

Decided to sit out in the garden this afternoon with the family together with bins and scope - instead of going out for a walk! Glad I did as they were all watching the skies with a bit of encouragement -as the day looked so good for high moving birds on the thermals. We were not disappointed! First a Raven went over very high NE towards Swales/Queensbury - this was a first for the garden from 1974! Also 1 Grey Heron, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Peregrine and 1 unidentified raptor/large gull - hard to tell it was so high and couldn't find it in the scope - always one that gets away. They were all going NE - oh and 2 balloons!

Suprising what you can get over your own garden if you just sit and watch the sky.

Hi. Came accross this blog today and noticed a post about sightings of a Raven from Lee Mount heading North to Queensbury? I saw 2 Ravens last Autumn near to Beacon Hill. I also heard Cronking coming from a small wooded area/coppice area, above Shibden Park too. I still walk this area frequently but have not seen or heard any since. I also saw a Buzzard soaring over Ovenden 09/04 and ID'd a female Hen Harrier heading toward Swales Moor/Queensbury area on Friday afternoon 08/04 - I understand this could be quite a rare sighting & so wondered if you have heard of any other recent sightings of H Harrier in this region?

Thanks.
